The report Call Me Priya: Empowering young women and girls in Tamil Nadu through a film-based curriculum explores how a film-based curriculum was developed to empower adolescent girls and young women in Tamil Nadu, particularly aimed at mill workers. The evaluation, conducted by Praxis India, employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing a stratified random sample of 35 adolescent groups. Data collection involved baseline and endline surveys, while data analysis included imputation for missing information and was conducted to accurately represent the participants’ experiences.
Results indicated significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes, and mental resilience among participants. The curriculum effectively fostered discussions on critical issues such as harassment and personal rights, leading to increased confidence and community support. Recommendations include expanding the curriculum to reach more girls and integrating feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the program. Additionally, enhancing training for facilitators could further strengthen the impact of the curriculum, ensuring that it remains relevant and effective in addressing the needs of young women in the garment sector.
