The report Meneshachin Scoping Study: A global synthesis and analysis of responsible recruitment initiatives targeting low-wage, migrant workers provides a global synthesis and analysis of responsible recruitment initiatives targeting low-wage, migrant workers. Conducted by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine with the support of the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and the Freedom Fund, the study employed a comprehensive search strategy across databases. The methodology involved mapping key concepts, synthesising available literature, and managing data through reference software, ensuring a thorough assessment of the evidence on responsible recruitment practices.
The findings reveal a significant gap in effective recruitment practices for low-wage migrant workers, highlighting the need for enhanced initiatives to combat exploitation and trafficking. The study emphasises the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including governments and NGOs, to develop ethical recruitment frameworks. Recommendations include establishing clear guidelines for responsible recruitment, increased training for employers, and promoting legal pathways for migrant workers. More empirical approaches to anti-trafficking policies and programs are needed to have more evidence-based and impactful approaches to protecting and improving
outcomes for low-wage migrant workers in the longer term.
