Ken Ondoro is an experienced international safeguarding specialist with over a decade of progressive leadership in safeguarding systems design, protection from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (PSEAH), investigations, and institutional strengthening across Africa and Asia. He has worked extensively with international NGOs, grant-making institutions, and civil society organisations to embed survivor-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive safeguarding practices into complex humanitarian and development programmes.
Ken previously served as Chief Safeguarding Officer at African Research and Development, where he has led multidisciplinary safeguarding and data protection work since 2016, including conducting numerous PSEAH investigations and building tailored safeguarding solutions for organisations across sectors. His career includes significant roles as Lead External Investigator, as well as long-term safeguarding consultancy with World University Service of Canada in refugee operations in Kenya’s Dadaab and Kakuma camps.
Ken has also provided safeguarding leadership and technical expertise to major international organisations including Habitat for Humanity International, Village Enterprise, and Faith to Action Network, supporting safeguarding integration across multi-country programmes, faith-based networks, and community-driven initiatives. His work consistently focuses on strengthening safeguarding governance, reporting systems, safer recruitment, risk management, and organisational culture change.
Earlier in his career, Ken served as Safeguarding Advisor with the Child Resilience Alliance for nearly a decade, where he built end-to-end safeguarding systems across multiple African countries, integrating safeguarding into grant-making, partnerships, HR, and programme delivery. He has also contributed to global safeguarding policy and technical working groups, including with Child Frontiers, and has supported safeguarding capacity strengthening for humanitarian and development actors across more than 26 countries.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Economics and a Master of Arts in Sociology (Social Development and Management. He has completed specialised training in PSEAH, ethics, and safeguarding integrity.
