The report Ending Impunity, Securing Justice: Using Strategic Litigation to combat modern-day slavery and human trafficking was launched after the Freedom Fund and the Human Trafficking Pro Bono Legal Center convened a gathering in London in May 2015. This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal landscape surrounding human trafficking and highlights the prevailing impunity for traffickers due to systemic failures in law enforcement, judicial processes, and victim protection mechanisms. The report identifies various obstacles, including corruption, lack of awareness among law enforcement officials, and insufficient victim support services, which hinder effective prosecution and perpetuate a culture of impunity. Among the main recommendations, enhancing collaboration between government agencies, law enforcement, and civil society organizations will improve victim identification, investigation, and prosecution of trafficking cases. It is of the utmost importance to implement survivor-centred approaches, including legal aid, rehabilitation, and social reintegration support, to ensure meaningful access to justice and redress for survivors.
