Her freedom, her voice: Insights from the Freedom Fund’s work with women and girls

Report
January 17, 2018

The report Her freedom, her voice: Insights from the Freedom Fund’s work with women and girls presents the pervasive exploitation of women and girls globally, who endure trafficking, forced labour, and denial of rights despite legal prohibitions. The Freedom Fund targets these issues in Ethiopia, India, and Nepal, supporting NGOs to causes with tailored awareness campaigns, life skills training, and community engagement to combat slavery’s root causes and empower women.

Key points we have learned from our hotspots include creating peer groups for adolescent girls and involving entire communities, including men, to challenge harmful norms. Also, it emphasises the need for careful rescue operations and sustainable support systems. Critical gaps identified include mental health support for survivors and the lack of female leadership within anti-slavery organizations. The report calls for increased research, community involvement, and leadership opportunities for women to advance the global fight against modern slavery.
