The Freedom Fund is pleased to hear that the University of Sussex (including its Institute for Development Studies, IDS) has been ranked as the top university for development studies by the QS World University Rankings 2015. IDS is currently carrying out a three-year independent evaluation of the results of the Freedom Fund’s first hotspot in Northern India.

The ranking is based on quality, impact and range of development research; academic reputation; and courses offered. First compiled in 2004, the QS World University Rankings consider more than 3,000 institutions, and rank more than 800 in 36 individual subject areas including development studies. QS’s major global surveys of academics and employers, as well as data on research citations, are used to compare universities’ performance.

The innovative, efficient and participatory methods currently being used by the IDS team, alongside their Indian research partners, Praxis, are an example of what has enabled Sussex to achieve this ranking.
