Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT) was created to be a service to the cause of rural workers and to support their organisation. CPT was founded 1975 during the military dictatorship, as a response to the serious situation experienced by workers, especially in the Amazon, exploited in their work, subjected to conditions similar to slave labor and expelled from the lands they occupied.
