Mahlet M. Alemayehu

Program Manager, Ethiopia

Mahlet M. Alemayehu first joined the Freedom Fund in January 2021 as a Program Officer, where she managed partners for child domestic worker and safer migration hot spots. After a period with Village Enterprise, a US-based NGO focused on rural poverty alleviation, she returned to the Freedom Fund in October 2025 as a Lead Consultant spearheading capacity empowerment through transformative leadership training and mentorship. In February 2026, she rejoined the Freedom Fund as Program Manager for the Ethiopia Hotspot.

With over 10 years of experience in child rights, women’s empowerment, girls’ education, and sexual health across Ethiopia and East Africa, Mahlet is a seasoned international development professional. Her previous experience includes roles at Compassion International, the Institute of International Education, and Save the Children. Mahlet’s expertise includes program design and management, grant and financial management, curriculum development and training facilitation. Her career reflects a deep commitment to creating impactful change for women and children in Africa.

She holds a master’s degree in sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University and a bachelor’s degree in rural development and family science from Hawassa University.
