A. Alvin Winford

Program Advisor, Liberia

A. Alvin Winford joined the Freedom Fund in 2023 as a Program Advisor for Liberia. He has over 20 years of experience working on on child protection issues, including counter-trafficking, child labour and sexual exploitation.

Previously, Alvin provided consultancy services for the Winrock International Attaining Lasting Change for Better Enforcement of Labor and Criminal Law to Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (ATLAS) where he developed a curriculum and facilitated training of trainers to improve the capacity of local actors to address child labour, forced labour and human trafficking in Liberia.

Alvin was a Fellow at National Center on Sexual Exploitation in Washington DC where he conducted research on the public health harms of pornography in Africa.  He also served as a Consultant Partnering for Stronger Communities Grants Program supported by IREX and the US State Department where he provided institutional capacity building for the Community Women Enterprise Network on advocacy, resource mobilization, child protection and violence against women.

Alvin served as a Fellow on Women and Gender Issues at the Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, USA though the US State Department sponsored IREX Community Solutions Program. He also worked as a program officer at ANPPCAN Nigeria, Enugu, Nigeria through the Norwegian Foreign Ministry Fredskorpset South Program.

Alvin is currently the Vice Chairman, National Child Rights NGO Coalition of Liberia, and is a member of the West African Research on Organized Crimes (WARNOC). He holds a B.A. in mass communications and a M.A. in educational administration and supervision from the University of Liberia.  He is a 2019-2020 Humphrey Fulbright Fellow sponsored by the United States Department of State. Alvin also has a Certificate in Human Rights and Law specializing  in “Trafficking in Persons, Policy, and Prevention” at the American University Washington College of Law.
