Report
September 15, 2019

The report Evaluation of the ‘Child Labour Free Jaipur’ Hotspot: Baseline Report delivers a thorough analysis of child labour in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where around 238,000 children and adolescents work in various sectors. Carried out by Development Solutions and commissioned by the Freedom Fund, this evaluation employed a mixed-methods approach, utilising quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with stakeholders from both government and non-government organisations. The research aimed to determine child labour prevalence, identify socio-economic factors influencing it, and assess the effectiveness of existing interventions as a baseline for The Child Labour Free Jaipur Initiative.

Key findings highlight significant challenges, including poor law enforcement and a lack of awareness among families regarding the adverse effects of child labour on education and health. The report suggests enhancing government coordination, improving community awareness initiatives, and promoting alternative livelihoods for families to decrease reliance on child work. Furthermore, it stresses the importance of ongoing monitoring and evaluation of interventions to ensure their effectiveness in fostering a sustainable, child-labour-free environment in Jaipur.
