Report
November 14, 2016

The report Modern slavery and trafficking in conflict: The UN’s response highlights the heightened vulnerability to human trafficking during conflicts and urges coordinated action by the United Nations, Member States, and stakeholders to protect vulnerable populations. While there is growing global attention to modern slavery, UN efforts lack coordination, risking momentum loss.

The report suggests appointing a Special Coordinator on Modern Slavery and enhancing collaboration between experts and humanitarian workers. Additionally, it stresses multilateral action, emphasising the need for accountability and supply chain integrity. Recommendations focus on UN leadership, humanitarian responses, and accountability mechanisms, including incorporating anti-slavery measures into crisis response, strengthening national institutions, and encouraging private sector engagement. These actions aim to address trafficking in conflict and ensure comprehensive, strategic efforts to combat modern slavery.
