Heather McDaid joined the Freedom Fund in 2024 as the Safeguarding Manager based in London. Prior to this she worked with War Child as their Global Safeguarding Advisor, supporting teams in challenging contexts to support and protect some of the most vulnerable people.
Heather has also worked as a Safeguarding Consultant for Education Child Protection, offering bespoke support to a wide variety of stakeholders, such as schools, NGOs, INGOs, police forces, and local authorities in all things safeguarding and protection, with a specialism in online safety.
Over the course of her career, Heather has worked within the UK and internationally. Heather was Head of Safeguarding with a national education charity, part of the National Safeguarding Team for a cadet force supported by the MOD (Ministry of Defense) and worked in front line services supporting children at risk of gang involvement. She has worked as a teacher in rural Thailand and spent time in Nepal where she headed up the teaching function with a volunteering organization.
Heather holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology (Honours) from the University of Maynooth, Ireland , and a master’s degree from the National University of Galway, Ireland.
